Four Features of Deep Tech

1. Scientific basis. Deep Tech Solutions are built on a strong scientific base. They require highly specialised research infrastructure and knowledge, often across disciplines.

2. Emphasis on R&D. Deep Tech Companies often face long development phases, 10-15 years, before their products reach market. They need highly skilled and specialised workers. The long gestation time makes for specialised products that outperform the competition by a larger margin than traditional tech.

3. Large investments. Substantial investments are required for Deep Tech Companies, especially early on to support long R&D phases and novel approaches. Official institutions, investment funds, universities and companies often join forces to realise Deep Tech Projects.

4. International focus. Many Deep Tech Projects seek to address complex international demands and challenges such as climate change, cleaner energy or public health.
